Finally finished with my master board

Well after 45 grueling days of studying from 6 am to 12 pm almost 7 days a week I am happy to report that I am finally passed my board and have received my title as a Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician.   YAY!

What this really means is that everyone will finally leave me alone and I can get back to hunting and selling my stuff on ebay!

With that being said my wife has been pretty busy shipping all of the items I have sold in the past 45 days.

Here are just a few of the items I have sold recently.

Choose your own adventure books

Paid: $0.25 each  Sold: $56.99  - shipping  I have just been buying these books when I come across them and finally was able to get a lot of 16 together.

Diamond Syroco wall plaques

Paid:  $5.00  Sold:  $56.99 - shipping

Syroco wall plaques are still some of my best performing items.

Charlie Brown Cyclopedia

Paid: $15.00  Sold:  $59.99 - shipping

I always go dig around in the book sections looking for complete sets or near complete sets then look them up to see if they are selling.  If I find a near complete set I will buy them and wait until I can piece the whole set together.

ERTL pay hauler 350 parts

Paid: $4.00 Sold:  $39.99

At first when I bought this model I thought it was complete until I realized it was missing the wheels.  I know that's a hard one to overlook lol.  Anyways I changed the listing to parts only and it still sold for $39.99.

Vintage Asian temple gravel art

Paid:  $4.00  Sold:  69.99 - shipping.

Rock gravel art can be very desirable if you find the right kind.  I knew I could sell these two pieces because they were Asian and I could market them as Hollywood Regency.

Pendleton Rockabilly wool coat

Paid: $9.99 Sold:  $59.99 - Shipping.

Its Pendleton and Pendleton rocks!

I get an odd satisfaction when I am able to sell coats and jackets in the summer.  :)

World of Warcraft Collectors edition boxes

Paid: $2.00  Sold:  $99.99

I paid $138.00 for about 36 video games and these 3 boxes, and these 3 boxes alone sold for $99 which surprised me a little since they don't even have the games and are not complete.

And yes I did get a positive feedback for them.

Hollywood Regency faux bamboo pin cushion

Paid: $0.75  Sold:  $49.99

I picked up this little pin cushion because its faux bamboo and obviously vintage.  I was a little bit surprised that it actually sold for $49.99 but I am not complaining :)

Well that's all for now, I can't give out all of my sales in one session or I won't have anything to write about.

Olivia11dancer's wish list

Over the past few months Olivia11dancer has been sending me links to listings that are on her "wish list"   I was cleaning out my inbox and realized that there are quite a few of them so I decided to recreate the list on the blog for all the hunters out there.   You can find the link at the top of the blog, or you can click the link below.

The easiest cheapest way to ship clothing items through the mail.

CHECK OUT MY NEW WEBSITE @ WWW.ARMEDTOSELL.COM

The easiest way & cheapest way to ship clothing such as shirts, pants, jackets & coats in the mail.

easiest way to ship clothing poly pro shipping bagsbuy poly pro shipping bags

While I was packing up this vintage woolrich shirt, bound to South Korea, I snapped some pictures to show you the easiest way to ship clothing.

How not to ship clothing.

I use to ship my clothing in boxes. However, after a few months of I realized quickly that shipping clothing in boxes through the postal service is not the way to do it.

I spoke with a fellow seller and had mentioned I was starting to sell quite a few pieces of clothing.   She said the easiest & cheapest way to ship clothing through the mail is to use poly pro mailers.   Man was she RIGHT.

easiest way to ship clothing poly pro shipping bagseasiest way to ship clothing poly pro shipping bags

As you can see, I use these shipping bags myself because they are very cost effective. If you are shipping clothing, using these bags is probably the best way to go. They will save you a lot of money in shipping costs. They are easy to store and don't take a lot of room, compared to storing boxes. They can also help protect your shipments from water damage, because they are water-proof. I use these all the time and I would recommend everyone to start using these!

There are multiple sizes available, but I currently use the 15 x 19 inch bags for smaller shirts and I use my new favorite,19 x 24 inch bags for larger articles of clothing. These larger shipping bagsmake it easy to fit a fit full length coat and even fairly large boxes. If, for some reason, you end up "butchering" a box while trying to pack/ship it you can use these poly shipping bags to strengthen and enhance the appearance of the package

The shirt shown in the pictures above is a heavy wool shirt. The shirt alone weighs in at 15.8 oz on the USPS scale which means it is over the 13oz limit for domestic first class mail. Luckily for me, this one is going international which means I ship it first class.

Before you ship, you have to determine what size shipping bag you are going to need. In the example pictures shown, I am using the 15 x 19 inch bags Fold up the article of clothing, so it will fit inside the bag. As you can see, the 15 x 19 inch bags are just the right fit for these kinds of shirts. Once the clothing is in the bag, seal the bag up, add an address label and then you're ready to ship! It's as simple as that!Personally, I like to tape up the edges to make sure that nothing gets hooked while its traveling through the mail system. If you are shipping overseas, I would recommend using two poly bags for extra protection.

When it is all said and done my package weight went from 15.8 oz to 1.09 lbs. Which means there is only a difference of about one ounce, where some boxes can be 16 oz alone.

Well that's all for now, I hope you enjoyed the post!

Summer sales

Now that we are getting into the summer season I have noticed an interesting change in my biggest day for sales.  For the past 8 months my biggest sale days were on Sundays but for the past month or so I seem to be selling much more on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I am going to have to assume that it is because more people are getting out and enjoying the weekends.  I expected May to be a slow month and it turned out $3888 in sales.  June is turning out to be a bit slower, but the sales are still coming in.

Today alone I sold...

Siamese cat gravel art      Paid $0.95  Sold: $39.99      I really need to start buying more cat items, I have sold every piece I have ever found and for a nice profit to boot.

Hollywood Regency faux bamboo Trivet   Paid $2.00  Sold: $20.00   Nothing too spectacular, I am just glad it sold lol.

Crombie style skinhead coat  Paid:$12.99  Sold: $89.99   I sold this jacket to a gentleman in the UK.  I knew there was something up with this coat when it said crombie on the inside.   I did some research which lead me to the keywords I used to list this coat.  I originally listed the coat much much higher to see if I could get a bite, but ended up bringing it down after a couple months and got the offer of $89.99 which I happily took.   Its a cool coat so I hope he enjoys it.

Lucite space age lamp  Paid $3.00  Sold:$18.00   I had this lamp listed for much higher, but ended up breaking down and taking the $18.00 offer.  I am not going to lie, sometimes it just makes me feel good to sell something, even if its not that much profit.

Hollywood Regency Faux bamboo tissue set  Paid $6.00 Sold:  $79.99  This set took a little while to sell, and I had a couple of lower offers which I almost took, but I am glad I didn't.  I really liked the detail on the faux bamboo which is what made me price this set at $79.99

Broken Xbox lot   Paid $30 Sold:  $95.00 - shipping.  This is a success and failure at the same time.  I figured out that broken video game systems have been selling pretty well.  Why are they selling you ask?  I am going to assume they are fixing them to resell.  I made the mistake of listing them with free shipping.  ( 30lbs )  Of course someone bought them in FLORIDA.   I still made about $20.00 in profit but that is below my 100% profit rule!   On the other hand this is a big success because I have been purchasing these system piece by piece whenever I come across them and so far I have found 4 full up working systems and the 3 broken ones which will sell for much more.

Well folks that's all I am going to talk about for now.  I am currently generating a list of items that have the following details.

#1 Items that I am always looking for.
#2 Where to find these items.
#2 How much I am willing to pay for these items.
#3 Quality control checks for these items.
#4 Keywords to use for these items.
#5 Websites for research
#6 How to price the items.

I am considering selling this list on ebay for a couple bucks, but I need a few people to review the list and give me an idea about how much they would be willing to pay for such a list.  If you are interested let me know.

May sales overview

May has been an outstanding month for eBay sales. As today winds down I am counting 7 sales so far which after a long memorial day weekend with no sales makes me very happy.

Totals for May: 67 items sold with $3888.00 in sales after ebay fees. Not to shabby considering I thought May was suppose to be slow.

Lets go over a few sales.

Paid:  $15.00 at a garage sale  Sold: $149.99  - free shipping.

While researching completed listings I came across these kinds of lamps and noticed they were selling pretty well.   One day later I found this lamp at a garage sale.

Paid: $9.99 Sold: $139.99 - shipping

I am always on the lookout for steampunk stuff, and this is the first piece that I have found.  What made me think it was steampunk?  I just looked at the arms as pipes and the elbows as steam junction points.  Obviously someone else felt the same way.  Remember a lot of items you will come across are up for interpretation.  All you need is someone to interpret the item and price the same way you do, and you got your self a sale.

Paid: $7.99 Sold: 110.99 - shipping

I knew this was an unusual swag lamp.  I have never seen one that was made out to be a sort of wooden prism so I listed it as danish modern and it sold within a week to a very satisfied customer in New York.

Well thats all for now, keep your eyes peeled for goodies.  You never know what your going to find.

Time to take your medicine Mr. Famous Turtle

I recently shipped off a very neat pair of mid century lamps to California, and I just received a message stating that one of the lamps arrived in pieces. I was confident that I added shipping to this pair of lamps because they were fairly fragile. Well it turns out that I didn’t insure them so I am out $79.99.
I had to swallow a two big fat lesson pills today. The sad thing is I should know better.
Lesson #1 – Insure your items if they are fragile.
Even though I thought I insured the item, I should have double checked.
Lesson #2- Don’t skimp on packing material.

I didn’t skimp on the packing materials, but I am starting to get low so I need buy some more.

I have been very lucky with the customers who report broken items to me, and it probably has to do with my quick response and expedient refunds.
Here is a lesson for everyone else who is selling on ebay.

No matter how well you pack something things will always end up broken. It’s going to happen, so when it does happen, don’t get discouraged just respond quickly to the buyer, resolve the issue and move on.

Your next sale will help you forget about the broken item.

I have 14 items that need to get packed up. You can bet I will be paying extra attention to the insurance block.

The ebay rejects, don't throw them away. Use listia

My little sister has been listing a ton of items on Listia to get reward points to purchase Xbox 360 games to sell on ebay, and I thought I would take a lesson from her.

I have been sending a lot items to auction recently because they have just not been selling.  I WAS going to take the items that did not sell and just donate them to goodwill, but I am going to try my luck at putting them on listia instead.

Only time will tell, hopefully I will be able to get some points for my failed ebay items which I can then turn around and get some more items that I think will sell on ebay.

Check out what items I have on my listia account.

Famous Turtle's recent garage sale finds

Well today wasn't exactly the most productive garage sale hunt I've had that's for sure.   Do you ever have one of those days where the GPS just wants to take you everywhere but the garage sale only to find out that after an hour of trying to figure out where the place is, it turns out that its closed because it's raining?  Well I had about 4 or 5 of those today which didn't make me very happy.

Luckily my bad day turned good with a single rummage sale that yielded some nice finds.

VINTAGE ATARI 800XL COMPUTER

I am a huge computer nerd so I was very happy to see not one, not two but FOUR Atari 800XL computers.

I tested all of them but only two of them actually work so I am going to sell the one below as a whole lot, and then sell the broken two as repair parts, and keep one for myself  :).

I ended up paying $100.00 for all 4, but if you check the completed listings on eBay you will see that I will have no problems getting my money back and then some.

INDUSTRIAL SPACE AGE STEAMPUNK FLOOR LAMP

I ended up paying $30.00 for this floor lamp, but I think to the right person this lamp will be worth much more than that.  This thing is a fairly heavy lamp so I think I will be using greyhound express to ship this one.  If you are interested in shipping with grey house check out my how to ship greyhound express post.

MID CENTURY MODERN FLOWER POWER CHIC CEILING LIGHT FIXTURE

I was a little bit apprehensive about this purchase, it has been sitting at a thrift store I go to every other week for the past month or so.  Every time I looked it it, it started to grow on me.  I ended up purchasing it this weekend, and after looking at the pictures, I think I made the right decision.

SIGNED CURTIS JERE METAL WALL SCULPTURE 1983

I have been waiting to find one of Curtis Jere's sculptures for quite some time.  I didn't expect to actually find one though.

I ended up paying $12.00 for the sculpture so if all works out I should have a nice profit.

Its fairly large so its going to be another one to ship.

Well that's all for now.  Keep on getting out there to find new treasures, they are out there are ready to be found.

Improve your ebay sales with good old fashioned research

First of all before I say a thing about Terapeak check out our completed listings.

Famousturtle2010's completed listing

Olivia11dancer's completed listing.

The listings speak for themselves.  One items sold will cover you for the month.   OK time to get on the soap box.

I do a TON of research on my items before I decide on a price to list my items for. I have been using eBay's completed listing search for the majority of ebay item research but it only gives me 15 days of completed listings.

Terapeak gives you the ability to search 365 days worth of eBay’s “sold listings”.

It will give you the highest, lowest and average sold prices for any item which will help you price your eBay items.

15 days from eBay's completed listings isn't enough.  On more than one occasion I have sold items which according to eBay's completed listings were not selling at all. I think it is due to the fact that the completed listings are only for 15 days.

Trends change all the time, and with Terapeak you can get a much bigger picture of the entire eBay market.

I  recommend the $24.99 option because that's with the $9.99 a month deal you only get 45 days of market data.

But if you want to try it out I would recommend the $9.99 package.

If you are interested in a test drive you can check out the Terapeak Price Report and start your free trial, you won't regret it.

Recent sales overview

Once again it's time to go over some recent sales of mine.  Keep an eye out for these items.

Bronze cat statue

Paid: $5.00 Sold:  $70.00 -Shipping.

Overview:  I bought this cat because #1 it was brass / bronze and slightly abstract and #2 I knew I could find a cat lover that would enjoy it.   The lesson to take away from this, put yourself in the buyers shoes whenever possible.

Herbert Herr black forest cuckoo clock

Paid: $12.00 Sold: $99.99 -Shipping.

Overview:  I didn't eve know who Herbert Herr was until I found this clock, I knew cuckoo clocks can bring some big money, when I did research there were not too many clocks selling so I priced mine $30.00 higher than the highest clock that sold.  Of course the day after I list this item it sell which means I priced it too low.

Syroco dove / pigeon wall plaques

Paid: $3.00  Sold: $50.00 -Shipping

Overview:  They are Syroco and they are dover / pigeons so I knew they would sell pretty easy.  They ended up selling in two days.  I probably could have put them a little bit higher.   Like I always say.  If you find Syroco for cheap, pick it up.

Lucite grape bunches

Paid: $2.00 Sold: $39.99 -Shipping

Overview:  Well this was my first test for these grape bunches.  They sold the day after I listed them, which was interesting because the single bunches didn't seem to be selling that well.  If I find any more of these I will be picking them up again.

Mid century owl salt and pepper shakers

Paid: $2.00 Sold:$12.49

Overview:  So this isn't a huge profit, but I just want to point this out.  There are owl lovers out there just like cat lovers.  These sold within a few hours of me posting them.   Vintage owls sell so keep your eyes out.

Gaming strategy guides

Paid: $.75 Sold: $10.00

Overview:  So if you look at just this guide by itself its really not that big of a deal, but if you look at my completed listings you will notice that these guides are selling fairly consistently.  They are easy to ship, and list so you can't really go wrong.

Well thats all for now, if you found this blog post helpful please click on the link below.

How to ship large items using greyhound xpress

I recently picked up a very large lamp which I will be hard to ship USPS, so I asked Olivia11dancer to write me an article on how to ship items VIA greyhound express.  She uses it quite often and its a great way to save on shipping depending on where the item is going.  If you want to ship something greyhound express make sure your item meets the criteria below.

SIZE, WEIGHT AND VALUE LIMITATIONS

Size: Packages will be accepted for transportation, provided the dimensions of the package are within 30 inches X 47 inches X 82 inches.

Shipments of Skis and/or Ski Poles will not be subject to the size limitations specified herein.

The Carriers participating in these rates, rules and regulations reserve the right to refuse to accept a package if its dimensions, even though within the limits specified herein, exceed the size or capacity of the Baggage and Express Compartments of the available vehicles.

Weight: No single Package will be accepted for transportation that exceeds one hundred (100) pounds in Actual Weight. Provisions for shipments weighing up to, but not exceeding, one hundred fifty (150) pounds apply in selected areas. Shipments over one hundred (100) pounds are limited to the routes of carriers with a (150) after the name. See next page for applicable areas. Xpress Baggage shipments may not exceed 75 pounds per piece.

Value: No single shipment (Prepaid, Collect, or C.O.D.) will be accepted for transportation that exceeds one thousand dollars ($1,000) in actual or released value. Released or declared value is the value agreed upon between the shipper and the carrier as evidenced by the uniform receipt given to the shipper by the carrier at the time of shipment or within a reasonable time thereafter or as agreed upon. With the exception of Xpress Baggage Service shipments, excess value charges will be assessed for any shipment with value greater than one hundred dollars ($100). Xpress Baggage Service shipments will be assessed excess value charges for any shipment with value greater than two hundred, fifty dollars ($250).

My items meet the criteria now what?

So your item meets the criteria to ship greyound express.  This is how you do it.

How to ship using grey hound express

Prior to listing your item:

Go to greyhound xpress website

Enter your zip code to find a station near you

I always enter a New York and California address when listing on eBay. This way you are covered no matter where the package is going.  Yes, if the person is closer to you they will be paying more than the actual cost, but it has to be done this way as you have no idea where your item might be shipped to.  Include in the listing shipped to the lower 48 states only.

I then enter weight and the longest measurement of the item, the website then gives me a shipping quote.

Always insure your packages.  They break stuff all the time.

Insurance is expensive I add 20.00 to the shipping cost to cover that fee

Package it very well

When an item sells  you will have to have your customer pick the closest terminal to them based on their zip code.

You will also need their phone number so that the terminal can call them when it reaches it destination.

Jefferson bus lines also work with greyhound xpress for delivery of packages.

Some terminals like Jefferson bus lines don’t have updated computers and tracking number aren’t available online thus leaving yourself wide up for a customer that might say he never got the package.

I have never had a customer try this scam, but just be aware it is a possibility.

Some bus terminals are nothing more than a gas station.  Not all terminals are equipped to handle packages so be aware that there can be a very limited number of locations in each state, Most large cities are fine, but you need to be aware that some of the smaller cities cannot be used as a delivery point.

All the  locations are listed on they greyhound website by zip code.

Shipping time is varied, it depends on the number of people on the coach,  If they have room for your package they will put it on.  It might sit some where in transit for a day or two.  Normally shipping is 3-10 days.  They won’t leave a customers suitcase off of the coach to fit in package in.  Passengers come first.

Cost of shipping is very reasonable, but remember the insurance isn’t and it does average to about 20.00 no matter what it is worth.

There are still treasures to be found, just like this one. + Recent sales

STAND This items was one of Olivia11dancer's recent sales.  I thought I would highlight it as a motivator for getting out to those thrift stores, and garage sales to find these treasures.

Olivia11dancer purchased the item for 25 cents at a small rummage sale in Burnsville Minnesota.   At the time she didn't even know what it was, but she knew she liked it.    This item spent the next 15 years without being identified until a couple of weeks ago, when Olivia11dancer decided to do some research on the statue.

More types of frankart

The buyer of this stand will be restoring it to its original condition.  Hopefully they will send us some pictures when they are finished with it.

This sale gives me inspiration to get into the books, and do more research.  I think if I had found this statue for 25 cents I would have snatched it up too.

Speaking of research I think its time to go over some more sales.

UTICA STAINLESS STEEL FLATWARE MADE IN THE USA

Paid: $2.99  Sold:  99.99

Why it sold:  Stainless steel flatware that is made in the USA is very desirable.  If you can find large lots, they sell very nicely.    I highly recommend you check out the flatware bins when you are at the thrift stores.  Pick up different forks, and feel the weights and the quality, then you will begin to understand why these are so desirable.    Flatware made in Korea or Japan usually vintage, and are good quality utensils.  Stay away from items made in China and Taiwan.

VINTAGE SWAG LAMPS

Paid: $5.99  Sold: 49.99

If you come across swag lamps I recommend picking them up if the price is right.  I knew this one would sell because it looked like iridescent carnival glass.    The big thing you need to know about swag lamps is whether or not the coloring is sprayed on, or if its the actual glass.  Sprayed on coloring will flake off and is not worth as much.    Ambers are the bottom of the bin while the greens, blues, and reds are the sure sales.

Things are finally starting to pick up again so I will have plenty of more sales to talk about soon, bookmark my blog if you have not already, and see what I post about next time.

How to profit off shopgoodwill.com

Shopgoodwill.com will kill you on shipping so if you want to make a descent profit you have to be near  a Goodwill that lists items on shopgoodwill.com

There are 2 Goodwill stores in the area where I am at that list items.

Go to the search option and then under sellers, select the closest goodwill.

Browse their entire listings looking for heavy items that people outside of the area wouldn't want to pay shipping on, or items that they don't want to ship.

Selecting the hard to ship items locks out all the bidders that are not in the local area, and gives you a chance to get great deals.

You don't have to pay for shipping because you can just drive and pick the items up which will save you a lot of money.  I feel like they over charge on shipping but thats just my opinion.

It is possible to still make a profit buying items off shopgoodwill.com for resale, but the shipping eats into your profits.

Happy hunting

My first garage sale hunt of the year along with finds & sales

This weekend was a great weekend for my first hunt. It was nice and sunny, which if you are familiar with the pacific northwest then you know that's a pretty big deal. I ended up spending a total of $100.00 when it was all said and done. I also learned about a prime spot for metal detecting so I am going to have to go check that out eventually. Ok lets get on with the finds shall we?

Vintage industrial style adjustable lamp

Danish Modern table lamp.  I wish I could have found the other one, but it was MIA.  I already have an offer for $25.00 for this lamp but I literally just listed it so I didn't take the offer.

Vintage TOKI mid century modern goose neck desk lamp.

This is an interesting find.  Its an art deco goose neck desk lamp.  I am guessing its probably from the 40s.  The base is cast iron so its fairly heavy.

Vintage cosmo clock made in the USA.  Faux wood face with arcade like numbers, I am going to offer this one as a vintage gamer clock and use woody ( like the Atari) as one of the keywords.  Should be an easy sale.

Hollywood regency chic angel goddess wall plaques.  I just sold this exact pair for $38.00 so it was nice to find them again.

Homoco four seasons wall plaques.  There is a specific term for this style, I just can't remember what it is off the top of my head.  If anyone knows please leave a comment.

I have to do some more research on this clock but its Hollywood Regency and its called the Homestead clock made by Talley Industries. ( Made in the USA)

Vintage desk lamp with articulating arm.  I just sold the yellow version of this lamp for $39.99 so this one should be an easy sale.

This light fixture is probably from the 40s judging by the wiring.  I am listing it as Gothic Victorian.

This is another interesting light fixture.  This one is probably from the early 1900s judging the wiring and porcelain sockets.  Its  all brass with some sort of lacquer coating which is scrapped up.  This would be great as is or someone could paint it.

1ft retro funky mod Lucite candlesticks.  I have never seen any like these and there are none listed on eBay so we shall see if they sell.

Hollywood regency faux bamboo octagonal cocktail tray.  These seem to be fast movers, I have sold every one I have ever found fairly quickly.

Well that's all for the finds as of right now.  I have a bunch more, but I have been listing all day, and I have not had a chance to take pictures of the other stuff.

Now I am going to go over some of my recent sales. (Not that there are very many, things have been SLOW lately)

Dorothy Thorpe pitcher and bowl

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130444983567#ht_500wt_922

Paid:  $3.00  Sold: $60.00     I had these in a lot with a champagne glass and another pitcher as you will see in the link.  I ended up breaking up the lot and selling the 2.  Its probably better this way.  They had been posted for awhile.     If you find Dorothy Thorpe items cheap, do not hesitate to pick them up.

Navy pea coat

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130478654323#ht_1402wt_907

Its spring, and I am still selling winter coats.  If you find a pea coat for under $20.00 I would recommend buying them as long as they are in good shape.

Paid:12.99  Sold: 79.99

Corning percolator cord

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130483770627#ht_1402wt_907

Vintage corning percolator cords are not worth a ton but they do sell.  You can't sell certain corning percolator bodies on eBay due to recalls so people piece together parts when they have the body.

Paid:$0.50  Sold: $15.00

Ship wall hangings

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130504902469#ht_1402wt_907

Vintage nautical items sell pretty well so if you find anything old and nautical, its worth a look up.

Paid:$4.00 Sold: 50.00

Vintage adjustable  lighting.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130504896458#ht_1402wt_907

These lamps are probably from the 70s judging from the cords.  The color is what told me I would be able to sell these,  it just stuck out at me.

Paid: $2.00 Sold: $45.00

Pendleton Tweed jacket

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130509513973#ht_485wt_1033

I say this all the time, but once again.  Its vintage and its Pendleton...  nuff said

Paid:  $4.99   Sold: 59.99

Graphic novel - Manga Naruto 1-27

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130493995677#ht_1402wt_907

Manga is expensive, but it sells.  If you find a large lot I would pay up to $1.00 per book.

Paid: $27.00  Sold: $100.00

Thats all for now, if you find this article helpful please give me a click on the above banner so I can get paid.   Thanks!  :)

Research website list for all your identification and pricing needs

Today I have been rearranging the blog to be more user friendly
(Hopefully more crawler friendly also)
I moved the research links onto another page.  These links are now in alphabetical categories, and most have a small description to let you know what kind of site this is.  Its a fairly long list and I couldn't have done it without all the great inputs from the people in the treasurenet garage sale forums.  Thanks guys!

You can click on the "Ebay item research list" at the top of my blog page or you can just click right here.

Also if you have any sites you would like to recommend, just leave a comment and a short description and I will add it to the list.

How do you manage your ebay income?

When I first started selling on ebay, I was just trying to make a little bit of extra cash to help pay for my wedding. Even before I sold my first item on ebay I knew that I wanted to keep the ebay money separated from our other finances.

I started by requesting a PayPal debit card.  Once I received the card I started using it to make all of my ebay purchases. After about a month or so my PayPal card started acting up, and would only work at about half of the places I went to.

Mrs. Famous Turtle then had the very brilliant idea to use one of our rewards credit cards strictly for Famous Turtle Treasure purchases. Now whenever I make a purchase I receive reward points through my bank which in turn helps pay for airplane tickets home to see the family. (Just remember to pay off your credit card off on time so you don't get any late fees!)

Having a closed loop system where my sales and purchases come out of the same "pot" helps me keep my the ebay purchases away from our personal bank account.  Of course as Mrs. Famous Turtle would tell you, I am not always the best at taking my ebay card with me, but I try to remember it.

I started out using about $500.00 to purchase items to sell on ebay.  In the 10 months that I have been doing this I have never had to put any extra cash into my paypal account, and my current overall sales is sitting at $20,000.

Not too shabby for part time work.

How to ship a lamp shade

I had to ship a rustic 60s burlap lamp shade a couple of weeks ago and came up with a pretty good way to keep the shade from being crushed.   This one has already been delivered safe and sound.

Tools needed:  Bag of balloons, shrink wrap

Step #1 - Get your shade

Step #2 - fill up enough balloons to fill the shade, and place them inside.

Step #3 - Wrap the shade with shrink wrap, place the shade in a box big enough to fit the shade and enough room to ad some more padding and you are set.

Keyword lookup tool

I just discovered this keyword tool by adwords.

https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/Explorer?__c=1000000000&__u=1000000000&__o=te&ideaRequestType=KEYWORD_IDEAS#search.none

Basically you put in a keyword and it comes up with other related keywords and also shows you how many times those keywords have been used in searches.

Some of the keywords won't relate, but I bet some good keywords could come up.

Just another tool for your tool box.

Running low on wrapping paper?

I ran out of brown wrapping paper a while back and I have been using brown paper grocery bags as a substitute when wrapping small to medium size packages. You can't beat free shipping supplies!

Well I just sold a domino rally set and the box measures 20x15x4 so this thing wouldn't fit into any of the grocery bags around the house, and I didn't feel like cutting a bunch of poly bags and piecing them together.

I was out doing yard work with the very lovely Mrs. Famous Turtle today so I remembered that I saw some yard waste bags in the shed so I decided to give it a shot.

The yard waste bag worked great, not to mention they are double lined so I still have enough bag left over to wrap another entire large box. This is a great way to use free (or almost free) materials and provide safe shipping for your customers.

FAMOUS TURTLE'S TIP OF THE DAY

While you're looking for treasures, keep an eye out for shipping materials such as foam, cardboard, boxes, packing peanuts, etc. You can often find things in the free boxes, garage sales, recycling centers and even stores. A lot of these materials are really useful in shipping and can be very expensive to buy. Smaller retail stores (my personal favorite is our local Dollar Store) will often be more than happy to give you their boxes for free to save them the expense of recycling them. Keep your eyes and mind open to the possibilities!

Famous Turtle's tip of the day.

Don' t pass up items just because you think they are ugly or uninteresting.

You are trying to sell to other people, not yourself.

Some more items to keep your eyes out for

Some more finds from Olivia11dancer.  You never know,  you could run across this stuff.

Famous Turtle's tip of the day

If you are shipping glass or fragile items, do a shake test.  If you can hear it move, you may want to think about adding more padding.

If you are afraid to shake it,  theres a chance it won't make it.

Well I am finally done with the month long ordeal that I had to go through.    I have a lot of catching up to do.

I have decided to continue with the quick seller snaps shots.    I still sold plenty of stuff in the past 30 days, thanks to Mrs. Famous Turtle keeping the store running smooth.

Ok lets get down to business.....

Once again, short and sweet

I am going to quickly go over a few things that I have sold recently.

Key ID features:  Decked out in chrome, non polarized plug, bright vibrant red and blue polishers.

I know nothing about shoe shiners, but I know they don't make em like these anymore.   A quick lookup, and I saw they were selling around $20-40 with a lot of green.     Listed for $59.99 and sold it for $49.99

Key Id features:  Syroco wood, syroco sticker.  Syroco is a great performer.   You would be amazed at how much you can get for these pieces.  I sold this pair for $35 just because I wanted space on my wall.

Key Id features:  sc fi / gamer / anime / manga / fantasy books in large lots.    Most people that read these kind of books have money.  If you can buy them cheap, and in large quantities I recommend it, just make sure that they are selling.

I paid .99 cents each in this instance.  Sold for $149.99

Key Id features:  Chromed out lamp,  Large flared shade, CONCRETE FILLED BOTTOM, bakelite lookng on off button.    I paid $12.99, priced it at 199 and got the offer of $150.

Good story on this one, I spent a weekend at a friends beach house that had two of these on the wall.   I found this at a goodwill 2 days later.    Nothing in that beach house was cheap so I figured neither was that helm.  $50.00 profit   zing!

Key Id features:  PENDLETON!    Pendleton quality is amazing.   If taken care of properly it can last a LONG time.  Its 100% pure wool.    This piece is newer, but it still sold.   Vintage pieces sell better than new items.   Eventually when I get some time I will write about how to tell the difference.

Key Id features:  Umm  this one is a little hard, its danish modern, just go to google images and type in danish modern.   It will give you an idea of what to look for, once you figure it out you will easily be able to tell when something is danish modern.    Also flatware is something that A LOT of thrift stores look over.  Find a large lot of stainless steel flatware for $2.99, is it made in the USA? Well then you may be able to sell it for over $100.00.

This short and sweet post has turned out to be longer than expected, it must be the vodka tonics that I am drinking.   If you find any spelling or grammar errors in this post you can attribute it to my drinks, and not the awesome schooling I received in the rural midwest.  :)

Oh yes I would also like to say happy birthday to my little sister Alex, she is 16 today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX!!!!!!

Looking for stuff.
