How to make the most money when selling video games.

How to make the most money when selling video games.

Welcome to another article on how to make money selling online.  I want to start this article off with a very important point.  It is important to research the average value of your video games to determine whether or not you should use the methods below on your games.  You can start out by researching your game titles using eBay's completed listings section.

You never know when you may have a high dollar video game sitting your closet and you don't even know it. Video games can get crazy expensive, just look at these from various vintage gaming systems.

SNES

N64

You get the idea, do your research so you don't accidentally sell a rare title way too cheap.

Now that I am finished with that, it's time to move on to ways get more money out of the video games you have. Whether you're just a gamer looking to sell some of your old games and systems or you're a defined video game re-seller, there are a few things that will always keep you from making the most money for your games.

1:      Complete video games - Let's face it, there are casual gamers and there are hardcore gamers. The hardcore gamers are usually also hardcore collectors as well. The types of gamers that are willing to pay high prices for video games are, to say the least, picky. Here are a few examples of how having a complete game can affect the selling price of a video game.

For this example, we will be using an all time high selling Super Nintendo game:  Earthbound.

As you can see, you will always get more money for complete games or near complete games.

If you have some of the rarer titles that have a higher value, you may want to consider making your incomplete games complete.   You can find everything you need to complete your games right on eBay.

It may take you some time to find the right price but you can find video game case artwork, replacement discs to complete sets & manuals.

2.      Condition - The condition of a game is another factor that can greatly affect how much money you can get for your video games.  When you find used video games there is a very good chance that the previous owner didn't take care of them very well.  Things like case scratches, cracks, poor labels, damaged artwork or scratch CDs will directly affect how much you can sell your games for.

Luckily for us, there are ways you can restore your beat up video game disks and cases.

I use all of these items to restore my video games.
  • CD resurfacers - When it comes to making the most money for your CD based video games, scratches will kill your profits. If a disk does not work, you're not going to get any money for it.
When it comes to CD resurfacers, you are going to want to invest in a real resurfacer, not the cheap plastic ones that won't really resurface your games. If you don't want to commit too much money, I recommend the JFJ easy pro to start out with.

I personally use the JFJ single arm for all of my video games & I love it.

  • Case scratches & damage - There is nothing worse than having scratched or cracked cases.  If you want a quick fix for your cases you can purchase the Novus scratch removal system.   I personally use it and can tell you that it will not remove scratches 100% but it will make them much less noticeable.

I am personally a big fan of swapping out cases all together. You can bring your cases up to new condition by purchasing new cases. They are fairly cheap and you can purchase them in bulk.

  • Cartridge based video game damage -  When it comes to NES, SNES & N64 games you will often come across games that you will have to take apart.   You will need a security bit to get into the cartridges.   If you have cartridges with poor rear labels, you can swap of back from common titles and put them on your rare cartridges.

Well that's all for now, remember the more complete & better condition your video games are in, the more money you will get for them.  Don't be afraid to invest some money in fixing up your games.   Good luck
