Discontinued vintage HP calculators are highly desirable.   If you find the right model, they can be quite valuable.   One of the tricky parts about these discontinued models, is finding the correct battery.  If you are a seller, you want to make sure that your calculators are working.

Whether you are looking for batteries for new HP calculators or discontinued models, sometimes it is hard to figure out what batteries you need and more importantly, where to find them.

Here is another hot product that will make you money selling on eBay as well as Amazon.   Check out the bottom of this post to get some tips on how to find hot products at thrift stores

A few weeks ago, I was hunting at a thrift store in St. Paul, MN.   It is one of the many thrift stores I stop at while running my thrift store hunting loop.

This thrift store had 16 cases of these Clevercat litter box liners as well as a whole bunch of loose boxes that were donated to the thrift store by Petco.

I had looked at the cases many times while walking the isles but they wanted to much for the cases.

About a month later, I went in the thrift store again and noticed that they had put a sign up pricing the cases at $1.99 each ( 12 per box ) and .39 cents each for the loose boxes.

$1.99 for 12 of anything that is a brand name would seem cheap to me so I decided to purchase 3 cases at $1.99 per case.

I took the cases back to my St. Paul house and listed the liners as soon as I got home.

2 hours later, I hear a CA CHING on my iPhone, I was down to 2 cases.   Another hour later, I hear another CA CHING and I have 1 case left.

Needless to say, I drove back to the thrift store and purchased all the remaining cases as well as some loose cases.   

They have been selling quite well, I just sold another one which is why I decided to write this post.

The funny thing is when I was initially researching these boxes, there was one other seller from Minneapolis ( same area ) that had a case listed on eBay for $59.99 but had not sold any.   I thought that was too expensive so I put mine at $39.99 and away they went!

Tips on finding other hot products at thrift stores to make money selling on eBay & Amazon.

• Have a smart phone with a bar code scanner with you when you go to thrift stores as well as retail stores, you never know when you are going to come across a hot product that is selling on eBay.  

• I use the WASP WWS100I handheld scanner.   It is small, light weight but durable, can be configured to scan silently and is the only one I can really recommend since it has served me so well.   It pays for itself within a few months.
• Train yourself to spot value in items.
• Got to retail stores to check current market prices
• Bring a notepad with you or use your phone's notes application so you can write down products to research.
• If you find products that are in bulk, mitigate some of the risks of losing money by purchasing only a few to "test the waters", then get them listed as soon as possible and see if they start selling.   If they start making you money, go buy the rest of them.
• Go hunting often, you won't find anything if your not in the field.

I had always wondered if I could make money selling dollar store products on eBay or Amazon.  Recently, armed with my trusty barcode scanner and profit bandit app, I drove to the nearest dollar store to see if I could wedge myself into a new type of picking.

When it comes to trying to make money by selling dollar store products, you have to realize that most dollar stores have a whole lot of crap in them and that manufacturing companies sell low quality products directly to these stores.

That being said, there are products in the dollar store that are there because a business closed and the dollar store purchased their inventory.  This is where you make your money at.

Here are two examples of products that I recently picked up for resale in my eBay store.

I found these smooth away hair removal pads for $1.00 each.  There were about 35 of them sitting on the shelf and I noticed they were selling fairly well on eBay.   I purchased every single box that was undamaged which totaled up to be 30 of them.

I got home, listed them on eBay and within 1 day, I had sold 4 of them at $7.99 each for a grand total of $31.96 plus shipping.   Needless to say, I made my money back with the first 4 sold, can't beat that!

The next product I decided to try to make money on was these perfect bra strap concealer clips.  I noticed that they too were selling fairly well on eBay.   Unfortunately the boxes were damaged so I ended up purchasing 3 as a test, trowing the boxes away and just selling the contents.   

As you can see from the picture, I sold all 3 already which means I have to go find more.

Dollar stores to have products that you can make money on.

I hope these two examples show you that it is possible to make money by selling products from the dollar tree and every other dollar store, you just need to do your research and make wise purchases.

Closing tips for making money from dollar store products.

• Keep your eyes out for name brand products
• Research products using eBay's completed listings.
• Bundle items to increase their value
• Use a barcode scanner to research products, it is a great investment and you can easily make your money back.
• Talk to the manager to see when they stock their shelves.
• Ask for free boxes and shipping supplies while you are there.
• Start out small to test the waters of a product, if it sells with in a day, go back and make a bigger purchase.
